Five Reasons Why we MUST retain the Eighth Amendment

Dear reader, the following is our appeal to you to consider the reality of abortion. We do not share these things because we think we are superior and know what’s best because of our own good will, but because we follow what is the moral standard of all mankind; God’s law.

Firstly, abortion is unnatural.

Abortion is abnormal and unnatural. Babies are conceived to be born, not to be invaded in the womb and torn apart by one who is meant to preserve life and not destroy it.

“children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

(Psalm 127:3)

A fetus’ (Latin meaning, small baby or child) heart begins to beat after 21 days, there is blood flowing through its body. A yes vote on the right to have an abortion will bring an unending culture of death to the unborn and misery to our nation. Are you happy to have such blood on your hands?

Do you know the true nature of abortion? To learn of the horror of the abortion procedure listen to Dr. Anthony Levatino’s testimony (who performed approximately 1,200 abortions): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylSforUeq0c (Youtube), https://www.citizensassembly.ie/en/Meetings/Women-Hurt-s-Paper.pdf (PDF), he also explains 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester abortions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFZDhM5Gwhk (Youtube).

Secondly, abortion is murder.

Babies in the womb are created in the image of God, just like you. Being God’s image bearer, you know abortion is evil and sinful. MURDERING a child in the womb is a willful violation of God’s clear command: “Thou shalt not kill.” The breaking of God’s Law is no trivial matter. God says that MURDERERS, thieves, liars, idolaters (all law breakers) deserve the wrath of God. As the book of Proverbs in the Bible says:

“These six things doth the Lord hate: … hands that shed innocent blood.”

When we plea with you to consider abortion, it’s not just to stop abortion happening, it is to point you to the root of the problem: our sin. And to point to you what the Bible reveals:

The Bible reveals that you need your sins forgiven and your heart changed to love the things that God loves. God sent His Son, Jesus, born of a woman. And so that those who believe can be forgiven; He lived a perfect life keeping God’s Laws; He was MURDERED on the Cross and three days later He rose from the grave, proving that His sacrifice is all-sufficient to save sinners. He now sits at the right hand of God, making all enemies His footstool. Do you believe in the God of the Bible that grants repentance and enables sinners to turn from all of their sins and trust in Christ alone for salvation as their Lord and Saviour.

Thirdly, it is not our decision.

If you read the recommendations of the Citizens Assembly (https://www.citizensassembly.ie/en/The-Eighth-Amendment-of-the-Constitution/), from these recommendations it’s clear that there is not one view on the matter. You may think abortion is right up to a certain point (e.g. 21 weeks), but your neighbour may think that it should go past that point (e.g. up to the day before birth). And who are we to decide? And do you trust the government to take this matter into their hands?

“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” (Psalm 118:8)

Fourthly, abortion is immoral.

Open thy mouth for those without a voice in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.”

(Proverbs 31:8)

Why is it that we can look back in history and see the immorality and sinfulness of such things as forced slavery and the holocaust? Why did the German people not see it? Why did the American nation and the British nation not see it? Simply because they had been conditioned to accept that these barbaric practises were acceptable. We can see it clearly because we were not so conditioned. But there has been a slow and steady conditioning of our nation regarding the issue of abortion. Our consciences have been “seared with a hot iron;” (1 Timothy 4:2), so that we cannot discern between good and evil.

Fifthly, it is proven to be destructive.

Open thy mouth for those without a voice in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.”

(Proverbs 31:8)

If we repeal the eighth amendment we will end up like our neighbours in the UK.

Consider the following from a major British newspaper,

“The number of abortions carried out in England and Wales last year was the highest in five years, driven by growing numbers of women in their 30s and 40s who are terminating a pregnancy, official figures show.

More women are having multiple abortions, according to the annual statistics released by the Department of Health. Almost four in 10 terminations are now carried out on women who have undergone the procedure before. Fifty women ( had) each had eight terminations, the figures revealed.

In all, 185,824 abortions were carried out on women and girls in England and Wales last year. That was 1,253 (0.7%) more than the 184,571 performed in 2014, and the largest number since the 189,931 carried out in 2011.” – The Guardian 17th May 2016

In America, since the infamous Roe V. Wade (1973), it is estimated that 60,228,737.3 babies have been forced out of the womb through abortion. Please listen to this video, if you can on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdTjLZPnvKM which shows a comparison of the many wars that affected so many with abortion, that blind spot which is wiping the earth of so many human beings.
